Hello, my dear Hallyu peeps! I visited a new Korean eatery located in the heart of Kolkata. Wondering why? For you guys!!!

Before I mention the name, let me tell you that the review I am about to share is something you may not expect. I also liked that the place had Karaoke, a great ambiance, and even better food.

Yes, you guessed it right! I am talking about none other than the Seoul story. It’s a King’s Bakery initiative located on Park Street, Kolkata.

About Seoul Story

They specialize in mouthwatering Samgyupsal (Korean BBQ). Additionally, they offer a variety of other Korean delicacies, including:

  • Corn dogs
  • Japchae
  • Kimchi pancakes

Along with delicious food, they provide a fun and eventful experience in their karaoke room.

I would love to belt out my favorite tunes and create unforgettable memories with my friends.

Everyone visits this place to experience the figurative but enchanting beauty of cherry blossoms in full bloom. You can imagine that you are walking through a path of delicate pink petals.

If you wish to, you can embrace the magic of spring time throughout the year at this place. Moreover, it’s a must-visit spot for you if you’re looking for a Korean fine-dining experience!

The Menu

I just had two items from the menu. However, these are the famous delicacies that you can choose from.

A friend of mine had been to Seoul Story before me, and she mentioned the Bossam there. She said it was cooked to perfection, and that I won’t find better bossam here in Kolkata.

I was just recording from the Jeju Island black pork controversy, so I ditched the bossam and focused on the Samgyeopsal here.

About The Owner: Who Owns Seoul Story?

When I found out that Jung Seok owns Seoul Story in Kolkata, I was quite taken aback. At first, I was quite confused about where I had heard this name before. And then it struck me!

Yes, you guessed it right! The same individual who founded King’s Bakery and the Seela Mart grocery store chain.

His passion for Korean culture and food has made him a famous name. His goal is to share authentic Korean dining experiences with people in Kolkata.

The story behind Seoul Story is that Jung Seok wanted to share his love for Korean food and culture with his Indian friends in Kolkata.

He aimed to provide an authentic Korean dining experience, offering live barbecues, authentic flavors, and a touch of Korean pop culture, including karaoke.

One thing that I really liked about him and his journey is his dedication to the cause. Many would think that he is an entrepreneur and he just cares about the profit.

Well, of course, he would. However, he is also quite dedicated to providing an authentic Korean experience to the people of K-town.

Kolkata is a melting pot of different cultures and authenticities. And I would say that Mr. Jung had an amazing contribution to it.

Seoul Story: My Detailed Experience

When I first heard about Seoul Story, I was a little skeptical about both the price and the taste. Now that I have visited some of the famous Korean joints in Kolkata, this was over the top.

However, I realized that I must not judge before I experience it myself. Additionally, I wanted to write an authentic review for you guys. So yeah, here it goes:

What Did I Eat?

Well, before I give you the list, you cannot judge me, okay? I know that I went a little too far, but I had to, for you guys!

I tried the Samgyeopsal, which is a Korean grilled BBQ dish. It comes in three options: chicken, pork belly, and seafood.

The seafood is a new addition to the menu, featuring two rice bowls. Moreover, you can wrap the seafood in lettuce or cabbage leaves and enjoy it with 13 side dishes.

These include

  • Doejang jigae (fermented soybean paste)
  • Gyeranmari (Korean egg roll)
  • Kimchi
  • Spring onion salad
  • Stir-fried potatoes
  • BBQ sauce
  • Garlic in sesame oil
  • Kimchijeon and pajeon (pancakes)
  • Danmuji (radish kimchi)
  • And pickles
  • Pickled onion

Additionally, I tried their Bacon Enoki Roll. This snack features enoki mushrooms. I wrapped it in pork bacon and grilled it with a special Korean sauce.

I quite liked it; it made a great light snack choice. If you are someone like me who enjoys trying new flavors, this one will be a great choice for you, due to its chewy texture.

Well, I know that these are only two items, but the portions were quite huge, and I went there all by myself. So, I guess you can understand why I gave the ‘no judgment’ disclaimer!

How Much Did I Spend?

I spent a total of 4261. However, I would say that this was not quite worth it. I mean, I found the quality nice, but if I compare ot with the price they are charging, it immediately becomes very mid.

Did I just confuse you a little? My bad. If I put it simply, I will say that I liked the ambience and the quality of food. However, I do have a problem with the price.

My Total Bill Breakup

Here is the bill breakup of the total amount I spent there. I am doing this just for you guys; otherwise, the amount I spent on food in one evening still haunts me. Take a look, though!

Items Price (INR) GST
Samgyeopsal or Korean Grilled BBQ 3400 170
Bacon Enoki Rolls 659 32.96

How Was The Service

I had spoken to many people who had numerous complaints regarding the service here. Some say that the service is too slow.

Another close friend of mine even said that she was not at all satisfied with the food quality. While some options were not available at all, the available ones fell short of the standard.

Now, let’s consider my opinion. I dont have many complaints regarding the service being late. It’s a huge restaurant, and considering the large number of customers visiting, it’s something I can overlook.

Furthermore, I liked the very aesthetically pleasing decor they have, so while you’re waiting for your food, you can always take a picture or two, just like I did.

How Was The Overall Ambience?

The restaurant appears to have a decent atmosphere and friendly staff, but the quality of the food and the speed of the service have been inconsistent.

I personally found the atmosphere to be quite decorative and aesthetic, but as entrepreneurs, one thing to remember is that atmosphere fades away with the absence of good-quality food and reasonable pricing.

If you’re looking for an authentic Korean dining experience, you may want to explore other options.

Suppose you prioritize a nice atmosphere and polite service. In that case, it might be worth trying.

However, be prepared for potential delays and consider the mixed feedback regarding the authenticity of the food.

What Are People On The Internet Saying?

“Love this place and I’ve lost count of how many times I have been here at this point. If this is authentic Korean food, then I LOVE IT! Portions are good. So many options to choose from, so many different dishes to try. IMO - try the KBBQ if you’re going in a group of 3 or more. It’s fun, it’s chill, tastes good! And add more items to eat while you’re there in your group. Food might seem slightly expensive, but for the quality AND quantity, will not end up feeling that expensive. I hope they maintain their standards in future.” (January 2025, 4/5 ratings.)

‘Amazing food i love that be my new favourite place so tasty food very good friendly service nice Korean beer you need to visit this restaurant”  (June 2025, 5/5 ratings).

“I visited this place on 24th December 2024 with my friends because I had a lot of expectations from seeing how it advertises it's asian cuisine. But I was extremely disappointed. The food is very average tasting and the pricing is not worth the quantity and quality.” ( February 2025, 2/5 ratings)

My Takeaway

Okay, now that I have shared every single important detail with you guys, I think it’s time for the final verdict. Wait, wait, it’s not that serious, guys!!!

I have presented everything that you need. If you ask me, I would say what I always say. It’s always better to try out a place before we create any image in our heads.

Additionally, the problem with mixed reviews is that you will never know what it’s about unless you go there once.

Also, Seoul Story is quite nicely paced, allowing you to take a break and unwind from time to time. I would have recommended it for a regular place, but the price is just not letting me.

Do visit once, guys, and let me know everything about your experience there, in the comment box below!
