If you want K-culture on your plate, then King’s Bakery is the place that you need to visit. And this is something that I learned during my early University days.
I have already in the rabbit hole of Hallyu Wave since 2016. So, when I figured that the first (and only at that time) outlet of tasty and authentic Korean food is served right opposite the institution, I was thrilled to try it out.
Therefore, it is safe to say that I have spent thousands of times here at King’s Bakery, and its warm, welcoming staff and owner became our go-to place after classes.
In today’s blog review, I will be talking about King’s Bakery, its food, and so much more. So, keep on reading till the end…
About King’s Bakery:
With a goal to serve authentic Korean food, King’s Bakery is your destination to try out premium bakery and coffee straight from South Korea.
It is your ultimate cozy eatery where you can have a date, meet your friends after work or classes, take your family, or simply sit and work alone if that’s what you want.
The moment you enter King’s Bakery; you will be welcomed with a roasted scent of Korean coffee and warm bread (ppang).
For instance, the yellow lights, posters of your favorite idols and Korean actors on the wall, and other pictures make you feel like you are in Seoul.
And trust me when I say this: you will get everything you want to try here. From Kimbap to dakgalbi, Korean noodles to kimchi fried rice, and so much more. The list is endless.
Furthermore, when it comes to desserts and bakery, you will get literally all forms of Korean bread here. For instance, some of the most common ones include soboroppang and kkwabaegi.

About The Owner: Who Owns King’s Bakery?
Have you seen those really warm, polite, and helpful ajhusshi-s on your favorite K-dramas? Peter, the owner of King’s Bakery, simply gives off that vibe.
Jung Seok, also called Peter by most customers he gets accustomed to, moved to India from Seoul 8 years back.
I remember asking him once why he chose Kolkata out of all places to stay and run a business. That was when I got to know that he opened the first outlet in April 2018.
While staying in Kolkata, it was difficult for him to find authentic Korean bakery products and desserts. And that is exactly why he decided to start King’s Bakery.
Furthermore, he also mentioned that he decided to hire freshers so that he and his wife could train them well to prepare Korean desserts and bakery.
I personally think that his warmth and honesty are his strongest values. Additionally, it was because of his perseverance he became the most popular person when it comes to Korean food in Kolkata.
He knew there was an increasing community of people who were interested in this culture. Moreover, he knew that there were not many options for people to make K-food at home. So, guess what he did?
He opened Seelamart, which is more like a Korean convenient store. Additionally, with this, you can get ingredients to make your favorite K-food at home.
King’s Bakery Review: My Detailed Experience
I have been to King’s Bakery many times. And every time I have been there, I could not help but smile at the humble staff who are trying their best to make every dish perfectly. And this is something that’s reflected in the food.
Additionally, I take the time to place my order whenever I visit a restaurant. And the staff at King’s Bakery are always patient with their customers. However, once you have finalized your order, you need to go up to the counter and place it.
Furthermore, if you are wondering, you can choose to pay for the food before or after eating.
What Did We Eat?
The last time I went there, I ordered their popular Cream Choux, the Chicken Gimbap, and Bibimbap. Additionally, I also ordered their Soboroppang, White Sause Pasta, and Chocolate Choux as a takeaway.
After waiting for just 10 minutes, the food started coming in one after the other. Firstly, the cream choux we’re undoubtedly THE best I have had anywhere. Additionally, the Gimbap (which is like a Japanese rice cake) was simple and flavorful. I loved having the bites of crab and seaweed.
Finally, the bibimbap was out of the world. It was colorful, it was flavorful, it was healthy, and simply tasty.
On the other hand, the chocolate choux were good but not as great as their plain cream ones.
1. Must Trys: Cream Choux, Cream Red Beans Buns, Bibimbap, Kimbap, Kimchi Fried Rice
2. Must Avoid: Chocolate Choux, Korean Coffee.
How Much Did We Spend?
The bibimbap was about 300/- which was the main dish in my order. Additionally, everything else added to around 700/- to 750/-. Along with my takeaway orders, I spend around 1100/- that day.
And, you know what? A grand for nearly 7 items, I think it was a pretty steal deal for me.
How Was The Service?
What I really like about this outlet is that they will honestly tell you how long it will take for them to get your food ready. For example, I was told that my food would be ready in 15 minutes, and I got it before that.
The only issue with the Newtown outlet of King’s Bakery is the fact that you must go to the counter to get your food. However, only if there are way too many items in your order will the server bring them to your table.
How Was The Overall Ambience?
If I had to explain the ambiance of the restaurant in three words, I would say: cozy, warm, and comforting. Additionally, the smell of freshly baked bread makes you feel a certain way that I cannot explain in words. So, forgive me for that!
What Are People On The Internet Saying?
What Did We Love About King’s Bakery?
1. Authenticity: Firstly, King’s Bakery sticks to its main goal of serving authentic food to the people. They are here to truly spread the love for Korean food.
2. Service: The staff at King’s Bakery, as well as the owner, will treat you not as their customer but as their friend. Additionally, they will try their best to make you feel comfortable.
What Did We Hate About King’s Bakery?
1. Price: While I can clearly afford a lunch for 1000/-, students might not. Therefore, it would be great if they could add some new dishes that would not hurt the pockets of college students.
2. How they Serve: Secondly, as I have mentioned before, unlike in their other outlets, you need to go and get your food from the counter.
Final Verdict: Is It Worth Your Time And Money?
In conclusion, King’s Bakery is truly the place you need to visit if you like Korean food. They are simple, they are humble, and they provide you with an eating experience that no one else does.
And do you know what else I like about this place? You can go, order a coffee and a ppang, open your laptop, and work there for as many hours as you want. No one is going to tell you anything. This, I feel, is really great, and not many food places offer it.
